Common sunflower Morava

Stable yields in challenging farming conditions

The Serbian breeding expertise of IFVCNS (Novi Sad) is traditionally focused on farmers who value predictability. The “Morava” hybrid is a classic solution for farms where resilience to pathogens is critical—pathogens that could otherwise destroy a significant portion of the sunflower crop within weeks. With a plant height of 150-160 cm, Morava forms a large, convex head that reaches maturity efficiently within a 100-110 day vegetation period.

Protection against biological threats

The primary reason for selecting this hybrid is its comprehensive resistance profile. In regions with a high infectious background, Morava demonstrates excellent results against:

• Sclerotinia and white rot;
• Gray mold and Phomopsis;
• Various forms of rust and leaf spot diseases.

Of particular note is its resistance to broomrape (Orobanche cumana). If your fields are infested with this parasite, using Morava becomes an essential part of your agronomy strategy to suppress the pest without sacrificing yield. Furthermore, the hybrid consistently delivers an oil content in the 45-50% range, making it a lucrative choice for delivery to oil extraction plants.

Operational features

Morava is a simple hybrid, which ensures uniform crop development and prevents surprises during harvest. The elongated shape of the seeds provides good flowability and convenience during processing at seed cleaning facilities. Thanks to its balanced 100-110 day growth cycle, this sunflower fits comfortably into most crop rotations, allowing fields to be cleared in time for winter crop preparation.

This hybrid is ideal for farmers looking for the “sweet spot”: high phytosanitary safety, predictable plant height, and stable oil content, all while maintaining reasonable input costs for crop protection.
