Sunflower Medallon

Ultra-early maturity for tactical flexibility

The "Medalyon" sunflower hybrid, developed by the Plant Breeding and Genetics Institute, is engineered for farmers who prioritize a tight cropping cycle. With a short vegetation period of 80–90 days, it serves as a robust solution for avoiding late-summer moisture deficits and early autumn frosts. It is designed to harvest ahead of the traditional window, reducing the logistical burden during peak season.

Root health as a competitive edge

What sets "Medalyon" apart from similar short-cycle hybrids is its specific resistance to root rot (pink rot). In fields with high pathogen pressure—often found in operations with limited crop rotation—this hybrid maintains its integrity when others struggle. By keeping the root system healthy, the plant ensures consistent nutrient uptake even under less-than-ideal soil conditions.

• Hybrid type: Simple hybrid, which guarantees uniformity in growth stages and ripening.
• Vegetation period: 80–90 days, making it an excellent candidate for late sowing or double-cropping.
• Origin: Ukrainian breeding, tested against local environmental stressors.

Is it the right choice for your operation?

"Medalyon" is not built to chase extreme yield ceilings found in intensive hybrids that require perfect moisture and fertilizer management. Instead, it offers resilience and predictability. It is best suited for farms operating in drought-prone zones or those needing to clear fields early for winter crops. The key advantage is economic: by reducing the need for post-harvest drying and mitigating root-related crop failure risks, "Medalyon" provides a stable, reliable income in volatile agricultural settings.
