Sunflower Interkrus

Interkrus: A Selection Achievement from VNIS

The Interkrus sunflower hybrid, developed by the Ukrainian Scientific Institute of Plant Breeding (VNIS), represents a strategic choice for agricultural enterprises utilizing intensive cultivation technologies. Created by a team of prominent Ukrainian breeders, including Maryna Kyrychenko, Viktoriia Babych, and Myroslav and Iaroslav Parii, this hybrid is designed to perform reliably under high pathogen pressure.

Technical Advantages and Pest Resistance

The core strength of the Interkrus hybrid lies in its genetic resistance profile. It offers robust protection against Peronospora (downy mildew), a critical factor for producers operating in humid or high-risk regions. Furthermore, the hybrid exhibits significant tolerance to powdery mildew, effectively reducing the need for intensive fungicide applications throughout the growing season.

Interkrus is specifically adapted for the 'Clearfield' (Euro-Lightning) production system. This allows farmers to effectively combat problematic weeds and parasitic broomrape, ensuring clean fields and optimized nutrient uptake for the crop.

Productivity and Quality

With an oil content ranging from 50% to 55%, Interkrus is highly valued by processors. Its high initial growth energy and uniformity across the field simplify harvest logistics and reduce mechanical losses. Key technical specifications include:

• Breeder: VNIS (Ukraine).
• Oil content: 50–55%.
• System: Euro-Lightning (Clearfield herbicide tolerance).
• Disease profile: Resistant to Peronospora, tolerant to powdery mildew.

By choosing Interkrus, growers benefit from a hybrid that balances local climate adaptation with high industrial efficiency, proving that Ukrainian breeding standards are competitive on the global stage.
