Sunflower ICAR

Stability of VIR Breeding: Ikar Sunflower

The Ikar variety is a result of years of dedicated work by the domestic breeding school—the Kuban Experimental Station (a branch of the N.I. Vavilov All-Russian Institute of Plant Genetic Resources) in close collaboration with the Research and Production Firm "Russian Seeds" and Z.S. Vinogradov. This sunflower occupies a specific niche of classic varieties focused on predictable results under intensive farming conditions.

Unlike modern tall hybrids, Ikar maintains compact parameters: plant height ranges from 100 to 120 cm. This habitus makes it convenient for mechanized harvesting, reducing seed losses during combine operation and minimizing the risk of lodging during adverse weather conditions.

Agronomic Profile

The variety's reputation is built on its adaptability to the soil and climatic conditions of southern regions. This is not a "technological toy" requiring specific herbicide programs, but a time-tested genetic material that demonstrates yield stability when basic agricultural practices are followed. Key parameters of the planting material:

• Crop type: Sunflower variety.
• Plant height: 100–120 cm, ensuring optimal stem load.
• Originators: State research institutes, ensuring seed purity and strict adherence to breeding standards.

Ikar is chosen by farmers who prefer working with varieties that possess stable immunity and a predictable response to agrotechnical operations. It is an optimal solution for agricultural enterprises seeking a balance between seed costs and the final profitability of commercial sunflower production.
