The 2025 State Register of Plant Varieties of Ukraine features a new oilseed sunflower hybrid — AS Rio. Developed by the specialists at NPP "UKRAGROSELECT," this hybrid is specifically tailored for the environmental conditions of the Forest-Steppe zone. As a modern F1 hybrid, it combines specific morphological traits optimized for consistent yield performance.

Agrobiological Profile

AS Rio belongs to the mid-early maturity group, allowing for efficient harvest planning in temperate climates. The plant is of medium height and lacks branching, which facilitates mechanized harvesting. Key morphological characteristics include:

• A large flower head that assumes a semi-pendulous position on a straight stem during maturation.
• Foliage with moderate green intensity and slight blistering.
• Orange-yellow ray florets and orange disc florets with active pollen production.

Breeders focused on both productivity and plant physiology: the hypocotyl shows moderate anthocyanin coloration, and the involucral bracts are distinctly elongated, providing better protection for the head. The straight stem, with moderate pubescence at the top, ensures good lodging resistance.
