Genova CL

Genova CL sunflower hybrid is a high-yielding variety with a strong stem, 170 to 190 cm tall, and a 20-24 cm diameter head with a semi-tilted position. This hybrid is characterized by high oil content in seeds — 48 to 52%, as well as low shattering rate of 22-24%. The vegetation period is approximately 115 days, corresponding to a medium-late maturity stage. Genova CL is recommended for cultivation in various climatic zones of Ukraine, including Steppes, Forest-Steppe, and Polesie, with optimal planting density of 40 to 60 thousand plants per hectare depending on the region. Genova CL exhibits high resistance to major sunflower diseases such as powdery mildew, rust, downy mildew, and sunflower moth, as well as tolerance to new races of Heliothis, including aggressive G+ races. For disease control, fungicides containing carbendazim are recommended, as well as insecticides based on imidacloprid and lambda-cyhalothrin for pest control. For effective weed control, herbicides with imazamox and imazapir, as well as formulations based on isopropylamine salt of glyphosate, are suitable. An important element of agronomy is fertilization of plants at the 4-6 true leaf stage with boron and nitrogen-containing preparations, which helps to increase yield and hybrid resilience. The Genova CL hybrid was developed using innovative genetic solutions, ensuring effective control of downy mildew due to the presence of multiple resistance genes. This enables successful cultivation of sunflower even in regions with high infection rates and aggressive parasite races.
