Sugar beet Chevalier is a classic diploid hybrid of the yield-sugar type with genetically enhanced sugar content. This variety is characterized by high root yield, reaching 87.5 tons per hectare, and high sugar content — about 18.3%. The root has an oval-conical shape and is planted approximately 85% deep into the soil, which contributes to its good development and product quality. The leaf rosette is of medium size, dark green, and spreading, ensuring optimal photosynthetic nutrition for the plant.
Chevalier exhibits high resistance to various diseases, including phytophthora root rot, cercospora, rhizomania, and powdery mildew. Additionally, the variety shows good cold tolerance, drought resistance, and cold hardiness, as well as good storability, facilitating harvest storage. Due to these qualities, Chevalier is recommended for cultivation in various climatic zones of Ukraine, such as Polissia, Forest Steppe, and Steppe.
For successful cultivation of sugar beet Chevalier, it is essential to follow proper agronomic practices, including crop rotation, adequate fertilization, and proper care at all growth stages. The recommended seeding rate is 1.4 seeding units per hectare, and planting can be done early. The variety is suitable for medium harvest periods, allowing optimized harvest timing and high-quality production.
