Sugar beet BTS 4770

Genetic Potential of the Sugar-Type (Z)

The BTS 4770 hybrid from the American company Betaseed is a breeding solution focused on achieving maximum sugar yield per hectare. At the core of this hybrid is the Z-type (sugar-type), which predetermines the physiology of dry matter accumulation and sugar concentration within the root. Unlike universal hybrids, the breeding strategy here is shifted towards intensive sucrose synthesis, which requires agronomists to adhere strictly to optimal vegetation timelines.

Biological Defense: Resistance as a Foundation for Yield

A key engineering solution within the BTS 4770 genotype is its comprehensive resistance to major beet field pathogens. The agrotechnical significance of this factor is as follows:

• Cercospora Leaf Spot: The hybrid demonstrates high tolerance to infection by Cercospora beticola, which is critical during humid summers when disease pressure increases rapidly.
• Powdery Mildew: Genetic defense allows the canopy to be maintained until late autumn, preventing premature leaf senescence and the loss of photosynthetic activity.
• Root Rots and Scab: Resistance to soil-borne pathogens and common scab minimizes storage losses and enhances the quality of the marketable root crop.

Using this hybrid allows for a reduction in the intensity of fungicide applications, which directly impacts production costs. BTS 4770 is adapted to the rigorous standards of the American Betaseed breeding school, where result stability across diverse soil and climatic conditions is the primary objective.
