Sugar beet BTS 330

Stable Yields in Challenging Conditions

The BTS 330 sugar beet hybrid from the American breeding company Betaseed represents a classic Normal-Sugar (NZ) type, designed for agricultural holdings seeking a balance between sugar yield per hectare and total root crop volume. The primary advantage of this hybrid lies in its adaptability: breeders led by Margaret Rekoske have developed a crop that is highly forgiving of minor technological lapses during cultivation.

The Hybrid’s Phytosanitary Shield

Unlike many competitors in its segment, BTS 330 demonstrates high tolerance to a complex of pathogens that traditionally degrade the profitability of sugar beet farming. During humid summers, when the risk of epiphytotics increases, this hybrid shows significant resistance to:

• Cercospora leaf spot, keeping the foliage canopy healthy for longer than many counterparts.
• Root rots and Fusarium, ensuring that harvested roots have a minimal percentage of storage rot losses.
• Common scab, maintaining the high marketable appearance of the crop.

The root shape is broad-conical. This geometry facilitates mechanized harvesting: the beet pulls out of the soil easily, which minimizes losses during combining and reduces the mechanical damage that often acts as an entry point for secondary infections.

Who is BTS 330 for?

This hybrid is the optimal choice for intensive farming operations working on soils with a high infectious background. If you have previously experienced crop failure due to Fusarium, BTS 330 serves as a reliable insurance policy. While it may not aim for record-breaking sugar content above 19-20% under extreme stress, it delivers a stable, predictable performance where more delicate hybrids might struggle. It is a workhorse for agronomists who prioritize consistent harvest security over marketing promises of extreme, unstable figures.
