Soybean variety Melpomena is an oilseed crop intended for grain use. This variety is characterized by a medium maturation period and is adapted to various soil-climatic conditions, making it particularly suitable for cultivation in the forest-steppe zone. Plant height reaches 80-90 cm, with the lower pod attached at approximately 16 cm. Melpomena has an intermediate growth type and hypocotyl with anthocyanin, indicating specific morphological features of the variety.
One of the key advantages of this variety is its high resistance to major diseases and stress factors, significantly simplifying agronomic management and enhancing crop reliability. The 1000-seed mass is 160-165 g, and protein content reaches 36.9%, making this variety attractive for producing high-quality soy protein. The oil content of the variety is 22.7%, providing additional value during processing.
For successful cultivation of the Melpomena variety, it is recommended to adopt an integrated approach to plant protection, including the use of resistant varieties, proper crop rotation, timely fertilizer application, and seed treatment. These agronomic practices promote healthy crop growth and maximize yield, which ranges from 3.0-3.5 t/ha. The variety was registered by the National Academy of Agricultural Sciences of Ukraine in 2007 and is widely used in agriculture for obtaining high-quality soy raw material.
