Description VOZNESSENSKIY 24
Musk sage (Salvia sclarea) – a perennial aromatic plant growing from 60 to 150 cm tall, valued as an ornamental-medicinal species. Its large pink‑purple flowers form dense paniculate inflorescences, while the leaves are pubescent grey‑green, measuring 10–15 cm in length and width. Flowering lasts from June to August, and the vegetation period is approximately 95–100 days.

The medicinal properties of sage are found in both the inflorescences and the leaves. Before flowering, leaves are used as a spicy seasoning to enhance the taste and aroma of dishes and aid digestion. All above-ground parts collected during flowering are used for therapeutic baths for joint diseases; decoctions from inflorescences help with kidney stones, tachycardia, and cough. Essential oil, containing up to 0.25 % aromatic compounds, is added to perfumery and cosmetic blends and used in aromatherapy to improve mood.

Sage is easy to grow: it is sun-loving, drought-resistant, and heat-loving, requiring no special soil. Sowing is carried out in autumn or early spring, planting plants at a distance of 20–40 cm apart. If necessary, the plant is covered during possible frosts. Thanks to its versatility, musk sage is valued in both cooking and medicine, and its ornamental qualities make it a popular element of garden landscaping.
