Lepidium sativum 'Sicilia' is an early variety of aromatic salad plant, featuring a compact form and high cold hardiness. The bush can reach a height of up to 60 cm, making it convenient for growing both in a garden and in pots on a balcony or under a shelter. Leaves are bright green, smooth, and deeply cut, giving the plant a decorative appearance.
The variety is distinguished by its rich mustard-nutty taste and aroma, which remains even after prolonged storage in the plot. Rocket 'Sicilia' sprouts quickly: seedlings appear just 5–6 days after sowing, and the vegetative period is about 20–25 days. Under optimal conditions (temperature 16-18 °C and good lighting), you can harvest from 1 to 1.5 kg of fresh greens from one square meter.
Lepidium sativum is a valuable source of vitamins A, B, C, E, as well as micro- and macro-elements - potassium, calcium, magnesium, sodium, phosphorus, iron, manganese, copper, selenium, and zinc. Young leaves are used in salads, pizza, pasta, and as a vegetable addition to meat dishes; flowers can serve as a spice, and seeds - for the production of mustard and oil. The plant is unpretentious, frost-hardy, and recovers quickly after harvesting, making it an ideal choice for garden and vegetable conditions.
