Two-rowed narrow-leaved plantain is a perennial salad plant from the cabbage family, resembling arugula in taste and appearance. The leaves are bright green, smooth, slightly cut, reaching a rosette diameter of about 11 cm and a height of 20–22 cm. Flowers are light yellow, and the mass of one plant is about 22 g.
Early maturing variety, the period from full germination to the beginning of commercial readiness is 25 days. The plant grows quickly after cutting and is unpretentious in care: suitable for cultivation both in garden-plot conditions and in open ground. The ideal temperature regime for intensive growth is +16–18 °C, and good lighting promotes denser leaf development.
Yield of greens ranges from 1.5 to 2.8 kg/sqm, depending on growing conditions. Young leaves are used in fresh salads, side dishes for meat and fish dishes, as well as in pizza, pasta, and other dishes. Flowers add a spicy note, and seeds are used for the production of mustard and oil. Due to the high content of vitamins (A, B, C, E), micro- and macro-elements, two-rowed narrow-leaved plantain is considered a useful addition to the diet.
