Radish Compass

Genetic Resistance to Photoperiod

The breeding precision of P.H.Petersen Saatzucht Lundsgaard is evident in the architecture of the 'Kompas' hybrid. This radish was engineered with a focus on stable root development under long-day conditions, which is crucial for summer and autumn crop rotations. Unlike varieties prone to bolting under fluctuating light intensities or temperature swings, 'Kompas' exhibits high metabolic plasticity.

Fruit Morphology and Physiology

The biological value of this variety lies in the uniformity of its round-shaped roots. The deep dark-red skin is fortified by a high anthocyanin content, which enhances both marketability and resistance to micro-cracking during soil moisture fluctuations. The dense internal structure of the flesh maintains its crunch and resists the formation of pithiness or internal cavities, even under intensive irrigation during the active growth phase.

Practical Cultivation Aspects

• Temperature Adaptation: Due to expert German breeding, the hybrid efficiently withstands stressful summer heat without compromising the rate of root enlargement.
• Maturity Cycles: An optimized development cycle allows for efficient staggered harvesting in late summer and autumn, minimizing yield losses during over-maturation.
• Shelf Life: With a robust outer epidermis and a compact root system, harvest batches maintain freshness during transit and prolonged storage, making 'Kompas' a preferred choice for commercial vegetable growers.
