Clara is a type of spring wheat of steppe ecotype, characterized by intensive growth and medium vegetation period. In spring form, this period lasts from 98 to 113 days, while in winter form it is at the level of standard varieties. Grain filling occurs within 35-40 days, ensuring even distribution of dry matter during the filling phase. Plant height ranges from 75-95 cm, with higher lodging resistance, indicating high productivity. Clara exhibits high resistance to lodging, which is an important advantage for maintaining yield.
The variety is characterized by high resistance to major diseases, such as brown and stem rust, powdery mildew, as well as increased resistance to Swedish and Hessian flies. It is not affected by cereal and hard head, which enhances its reliability under different agroclimatic conditions. The spike of the variety is white, non-hairy, cylindrical in shape, 8-10 cm long, with medium density and characteristic awns of 15-20 mm. The grain is red, oval, medium-sized, with 1000-grain weight up to 40 g and higher, ensuring high yield potential.
Clara effectively utilizes favorable conditions for grain filling, especially under irrigation, allowing to achieve maximum yield up to 8.7 t/ha. The variety demonstrates good adaptability to different sowing dates, particularly at optimal autumn sowing dates, yield corresponds to the standard Odessa 267, while at later sowing dates, yield reduction is minimal. Light-green leaves with weak waxy coating and erect growth habit promote better photosynthesis and overall plant development. Thanks to these characteristics, Clara is a reliable choice for intensive farming in steppe regions.
