Winter wheat variety Bonanza is characterized by high yield and versatility, making it suitable for cultivation in various regions of Ukraine, including the Forest-Steppe, Steppe zones, and Polissya. This variety consistently demonstrates high and stable yields on all soil types and after various preceding crops, especially effective when full nitrogen fertilization is applied in spring on frozen soils. Plant height ranges from low to medium (75-79 cm), and plant density reaches 590-600 plants per square meter, indicating high tillering.
One of the key features of the Bonanza variety is its exceptional winter hardiness and resistance to major wheat diseases such as powdery mildew, rust, leaf blotch, Fusarium head blight, cercosporosis, septoria leaf blotch, and yellow rust. Resistance to these diseases is rated high, ensuring yield protection and reducing the need for frequent fungicide applications. Additionally, the variety exhibits moderate resistance to lodging and high drought tolerance.
The quality of Bonanza wheat grain is characterized by protein content of 12-13%, gluten content of 27-28%, and flour strength around 280, providing high bread scoring (4.6-4.9 points). The thousand-grain weight is 43-45 grams. Recommended seeding rates vary depending on sowing time: early sowing — 3.0 million seeds per hectare, optimal — 4.0 million, late — 4.5 million. The variety is suitable for planting after corn and other crops, and is recommended for cultivation on sandy soils.
