Portulaca grandiflora is an annual plant that forms a real decorative carpet thanks to its bright and dense flowers. Our assortment includes the white variety with double flowers, 2.5–3 cm in diameter, which has a delicate creamy color and high resistance to adverse conditions.
The leaves of portulaca are fleshy, cylindrical, green or slightly reddish, adding extra decorativeness to the plant. The plant prefers bright light and temperature 20–26 °C but tolerates heat and drought well, not requiring frequent watering. Thanks to its unpretentiousness, portulaca is easily grown in poor soils and can serve as an excellent substitute for a lawn in decorative garden compositions.
Portulaca is widely used as a carpet plant: it can be placed on borders, joints of concrete slabs, in open ground or even in containers. It grows quickly and forms a dense layer, protecting the soil from erosion and improving the microclimate for neighboring plants. Care requires moderate watering, good drainage, and sunlight. In case pests appear – aphids, mealybugs – ordinary insecticides can be used.
The «White-flowered» variety is valued for its brightness and decorativeness, as well as its ability to bloom even on cloudy days. This makes it an ideal choice for those who want to add a picturesque white carpet to their garden without much trouble maintaining it.
