Pelargonium Surprise

Maintenance and Performance

The 'Surprise' pelargonium, developed by the Federal Research Centre for Subtropical Science, is a robust choice for indoor cultivation. Its bushy growth habit eliminates the need for complex training, allowing the plant to maintain a balanced, tidy silhouette with minimal intervention from the owner.

Key Features for the Grower

This variety stands out due to its variegated foliage, which remains visually interesting even when the plant is not in bloom. When it does flower, the deep purple blossoms provide a striking contrast against the uniquely patterned leaves, which also emit a pleasant, spicy fragrance.

• Practicality: The spicy-scented foliage acts as a natural room freshener, adding an olfactory dimension to the indoor environment.
• Care Requirements: To maintain the vibrant variegation, place the plant in a spot with bright, indirect light. It is quite resilient and handles minor irregularities in watering schedules well.
• Aesthetic Value: The compact, bushy form ensures it fits perfectly on windowsills or as part of a larger indoor garden setup.

Choosing 'Surprise' means investing in a high-quality, stable cultivar that combines low-maintenance care with high aesthetic rewards. It is a reliable performer for any indoor space, delivering both visual beauty and aromatic appeal.
