Orchard Grass NEVA

Technical Profile of the Neva Potato Variety

The Neva potato variety is a result of selective breeding by the A.G. Lorch Potato Research Center. It is a mid-early table variety adapted for intensive farming, where the balance between biomass accumulation rates and the plant's defensive functions is the decisive success factor.

Agrotechnical Indicators and Development

• Vegetation period: 80–90 days from emergence to technical maturity.
• Resistance: Strong genetic resistance to powdery mildew, allowing for a reduced fungicide load during the active growing season.
• Tuber morphology: Round shape with smooth skin and shallow eyes, significantly simplifying primary processing and automated washing operations.

From a technical standpoint, Neva demonstrates consistent nest formation. This is critical for mechanized harvesting, as the compact arrangement of tubers minimizes losses and reduces the rate of mechanical damage during harvester operation. The variety is demanding regarding the agronomic background: achieving full yield potential requires regular irrigation, as the plant is sensitive to drought during the tuberization phase.

Under northern climate conditions, this variety has proven to be a reliable crop for producers focused on stable marketability. The lack of premature sprouting, provided that storage technologies are followed, ensures excellent storability, maintaining the product’s quality throughout the entire winter storage period.
