Orchard Grass SVERDLOVSKAYA 79

Stable Forage Potential of Cocksfoot

The 'Sverdlovskaya 79' cocksfoot variety is a product of long-term selection by the Ural Federal Agrarian Research Center, developed specifically for regions with harsh climates. Its primary advantage lies in combining high winter hardiness with productivity reaching 4–5 tons/ha of dry matter. Unlike many introduced varieties, this type shows exceptional adaptability to demanding soil and climatic conditions, making it a reliable tool for establishing long-term pastures and hayfields.

Agronomic Characteristics and Application

• Purpose: Used as a staple component in forage mixtures for cattle and sheep.
• Resilience: The variety is resistant to early spring frosts and shows stable regrowth after cutting, allowing for up to 2–3 harvests per season, provided there is adequate moisture.
• Nutritional Value: The plant is characterized by high leafiness, which directly contributes to protein content and digestibility during the winter period.

'Sverdlovskaya 79' is the choice for farms prioritizing reliability. Unlike more demanding ryegrasses, this variety requires less expenditure on reseeding due to its longevity in the sward. However, growers should note that the crop performs best on fertile soils: on poor sandy soils, yield may be lower than stated, and on waterlogged land, the crop is prone to thinning. It is an ideal option for agricultural enterprises looking to reduce the cost of their forage base by creating long-term seeded meadows.
