The maturation period ranges from 80 to 115 days depending on growing conditions, allowing for harvest as early as mid-July when planted in May. The bulbs have a round or slightly flat round shape with a weight from 120 to 220 grams, covered by yellow-brown dry scales, while the inner juicy scales are white. The variety is characterized by high ripening before harvest — up to 94%, which ensures a commercial yield from 3.5 to 5 kg per square meter. Rumba prefers fertile loamy soils and requires proper planting density: spacing between plants of about 10 cm, between rows — 20 cm, with planting depth of 3-5 cm in spring and 6-10 cm for autumn planting to protect against frost. This variety is renowned for its resistance to diseases and pests, particularly downy mildew and onion fly, as well as frost resistance, which allows cultivation in various climatic zones, including moderate and northern regions. Onion Rumba has high storability thanks to dense skin and high dry matter content, allowing harvest to be stored for up to 8 months without quality loss. High quality of bulbs and stable yield make this variety popular among farmers and gardeners, as well as in demand in the market. In terms of taste, onion Rumba is characterized by a sharp-bitter flavor, which is excellent for fresh consumption, canning, as well as use in salads and various culinary dishes. Moreover, the onion is rich in vitamins of groups B, PP, E, C and trace elements, which makes it useful for the prevention of colds and vitamin deficiency. Thanks to its decorative qualities, onion Rumba can also be used as a garnish for dishes.
