Onion Antartica

Antarctica Onion: Winter Hardy Selection from Bejo

When it comes to winter onions, Bejo’s breeding program is synonymous with harvest predictability. The 'Antarctica' hybrid has established a solid reputation as a reliable variety for early commercial production. Developed by Dutch experts, this hybrid is designed to provide rapid harvest in the spring and summer, hitting the market when the demand for high-quality bulbs is at its peak.

Agronomic Strengths and Benefits

The core value of 'Antarctica' lies in its exceptional adaptability to winter conditions. Unlike many competitors, this variety boasts high winter hardiness, which is critical for regions with fluctuating temperature patterns. Key characteristics include:

• Bulb Morphology: Uniform, round shape with dense scales, ensuring excellent shelf life and transportability.
• Maturity: One of the earliest in its segment, allowing farmers to be the first to supply high-quality produce.
• Resilience: The hybrid shows high tolerance to bolting—a common drawback of many early onion varieties.

Who is this variety for?

'Antarctica' by Bejo is the ideal choice for farming operations focused on efficient, continuous vegetable production. If your business model demands stability, minimal winter loss, and high marketability, this variety will be the cornerstone of your spring revenue. It is important to note that the hybrid requires precise planting schedules: sowing too early increases the risk of bolting, making the optimal autumn planting window the key to success. By utilizing Dutch genetics, you gain a predictable performance that justifies your investment in premium seeds.
