Arenales F1 watermelon is a mid-early hybrid of the 'Piel de Sapo' type, developed by the Dutch breeding company Enza Zaden. This variety is characterized by high productivity and resistance to adverse weather conditions, as well as tolerance to various agronomic practices. The plant is compact, with good growth vigor and abundant foliage, which promotes even fruit ripening and prevents sunburn. The vegetative period is approximately 65-70 days from transplanting seedlings, and the first fruits can be harvested as early as 50-55 days after seed germination.
The fruits of Arenales watermelon have an elongated oval shape and weigh between 2 to 3 kg. The skin is of medium thickness, dense, dark green in color, with a well-defined netted pattern, ensuring low damage rates during harvest and transport, and allowing fruits to be stored in field conditions for several weeks without risk of overripening or loss of aesthetic quality. The flesh is white, tender, juicy, with good structure and moderate firmness, with low granularity. The seed cavity is of medium size. The sugar content in the flesh ranges from 7 to 9%, giving it a distinct flavor and aroma.
Arenales F1 watermelon is resistant to powdery mildew and soil-borne diseases, quickly adapts to changing growing conditions, and requires a long photoperiod, not tolerating shade. Due to its qualities and characteristics, this hybrid is ideally suited for cultivation aimed at producing high-quality fruits intended for fresh consumption, as well as for easy transport and long-term storage.
