Northern Star

Flax 'Northern Star' — a variety registered in the State Register of Plant Varieties suitable for propagation in Ukraine since 2018. This variety is characterized by white star-shaped flowers, cream-yellow stamens, and light-brown seed color. Plants reach a height of 55–60 cm and belong to the early-mid-season type with a vegetation period of 75 to 86 days. The 1000-seed mass is 8.2 g, and the number of pods per plant exceeds 30. The stem has a high branching capacity, contributing to a significant yield.

The variety exhibits high resistance to lodging, pod cracking, and seed shattering, as well as resilience to pests and diseases. It is classified as intensive and demonstrates stable yield performance under various growing conditions and regions. The seed yield potential is 3.0 to 3.5 tons per hectare. The high oil content in seeds — 45%, and protein — 42%, makes this variety particularly valuable for oilseed production.

'Northern Star' is suitable for cultivation in various natural-climatic zones of Ukraine, including the Steppe, Forest-Steppe, and Polissia. Due to its agronomic characteristics and resilience, this variety ensures a stable and high yield, making it an attractive choice for agricultural producers focused on oilseed crops.
