Lettuce BAKUS

Technological Potential of Bakus Lettuce by Vilmorin-Mikado

French breeding by Vilmorin-Mikado consistently focuses on combining visual appeal with high stress tolerance. The "Bakus" variety, belonging to the Lollo Rossa type, serves as an optimal solution for producers seeking stable market quality under challenging agricultural conditions.

Phytopathological Protection

The primary advantage of Bakus lies in its complex genetic defense system. Unlike standard varieties, this model demonstrates high resistance to key agricultural threats:

• Downy Mildew: Vilmorin-Mikado breeders have strengthened the plant genome against a broad spectrum of races of this fungal disease.
• Lettuce Aphid (Nasonovia ribisnigri): resistance to this pest is critical for reducing insecticide costs and enhancing the environmental sustainability of the crop.
• Root Aphid: protection of the root system ensures stable nutrient uptake even under high-stress growth conditions.

Agronomic Characteristics and Morphology

Bakus develops a medium-sized rosette with intense dark-red leaf coloration. With a mid-season maturity cycle, the variety allows for efficient planning of harvest cycles. The Lollo Rossa type, in this hybrid version, is characterized by high leaf density, which is crucial for transport: the structure maintains its marketability and freshness from the field to the point of sale. The dark pigment indicates a high anthocyanin content, enhancing the product's appeal in the premium market segment.

Deploying this variety is a strategic choice for growers aiming to minimize the risk of crop loss from fungal infections and pests without relying solely on chemical inputs. A balanced genetic profile makes Bakus a reliable tool for professional vegetable production.
