Color cabbage variety Opal is an ultrarange Dutch hybrid intended for growing in greenhouses, hotbeds, and under film or agrofiber coverings. In southern regions, under favorable conditions, it can be grown in open ground. The maturation period is 45-60 days after seedling transplant, making this variety one of the earliest on the market. Opal differs in high yield – up to 8-10 kg per square meter, which is particularly valuable for industrial cultivation.
Cabbage heads have a snow-white color, round or oval shape with a bumpy surface. Average fruit weight varies from 0.6 to 1.5 kg with good care. Heads are dense, compact, and uniform, ensuring excellent preservation and high transportability without damage. The variety is resistant to cracking and has high field health, tolerating temperature fluctuations and low temperatures well.
Opal is valued for its delicate taste and versatility of application. It is excellent for fresh consumption, freezing, and processing. Due to high storability and ability to maintain color and freshness for a long time, the cabbage retains market qualities for an extended period. To achieve maximum yield, a planting density of 35-40 thousand plants per hectare is recommended, as well as regular care including watering, loosening, fertilization, and ventilation.
