Iberis is a compact perennial plant from the Brassicaceae family, valued for its bright white flowering and low maintenance requirements. Its decorative appeal lies in dense whorled inflorescences that cover the bush almost completely during flowering from April to May. Leaves are dark green, dense, and glossy, retaining their greenness even in winter, making Iberis an ideal choice for borders, low beds, and under trees.
Consistent winter hardiness is one of the key advantages of Iberis sempervirens. The plant withstands temperatures down to -30 °C and exhibits good drought tolerance, allowing it to be grown in various climatic conditions without regular watering. It adapts to a wide range of soils: from sandy and light to heavier ones, while preferring well-drained environments with a neutral or slightly alkaline reaction (pH 6.5–7.5). For maximum resilience, it is recommended to loosen the soil to a depth of 20–25 cm and add compost or manure.
Care for Iberis is minimal: watering is needed only during prolonged heat, while mulching helps retain moisture in the soil. After flowering, pruning stimulates the appearance of new buds and maintains bush compactness. If needed, you can additionally fertilize with a complex mineral fertilizer with reduced nitrogen content one or two times per season, especially on poor soils. Thanks to its unpretentiousness and decorative value, Iberis sempervirens is widely used in landscape design for creating living borders, low beds, as well as an element of rocky slopes and balcony containers.
