Hazelnut Purple

Ornamental Beauty Meets Productive Nut Production

The «Purpurny» hazelnut (Purple hazel), produced by the NPO for Nut Growing «Funduk», is a unique variety that bridges the gap between landscape design and agricultural productivity. Developed by the experts at the Ivanteevka Forest Selection Nursery (Kolesnikova, Vanicheva, Dmitrieva), this hybrid is highly regarded for its exceptional aesthetic value without sacrificing the quality of the harvest.

The defining characteristic of this variety is its rich, purple foliage that maintains its deep color throughout the entire growing season. Unlike standard green-leaved hazelnut bushes, the «Purpurny» cultivar acts as a striking focal point in any garden. Beyond its visual impact, it is a productive nut-bearing plant, producing high-quality nuts with a distinct, round shape that are excellent for both raw consumption and culinary use.

Why Choose the «Purpurny» Variety?

• For Landscape Designers: The deep purple leaves provide a stunning contrast against green conifers or lighter-colored shrubs, making it a staple for high-end landscaping.
• For Home Orchardists: It offers a dual-purpose benefit: serving as an ornamental focal point while providing a reliable annual harvest of tasty, round hazelnuts.
• Reliable Provenance: Developed by a specialized research nursery, the variety ensures consistent genetic traits and high selection standards.

While the «Purpurny» hazelnut is a standout performer, it is essential to note that its beauty requires dedicated care. Like many specialized varieties from the Ivanteevka collection, it demands proper soil nutrition and proactive pest management to ensure the leaves retain their vibrant pigment and the nuts fill out properly. It is not a «set and forget» plant; it rewards those who practice consistent horticultural techniques with a magnificent bush that stands out from the crowd.
