Rudkivsky

The 'Rudkovsky' hazelnut variety was developed in 2007 at the Transnistrian Experimental Station for Horticulture in Ukraine. This variety is distinguished by early ripening, with harvesting beginning in the second half of September. The tree is tall, reaching up to 8 meters in height, with a wide crown and strong growth. Leaves are elongated, oval-shaped with a pointed tip. Fruit production begins as early as the 3rd-4th year after planting, and by the 7th-8th year, yield reaches approximately 10.5 kg per tree.

The fruits of the 'Rudkovsky' variety have medium size and an elongated-elliptical shape. The average kernel mass ranges from 13.6 to 16 grams, accounting for approximately 49-50% of the total nut weight. The shell is thin, smooth, and easily splits, facilitating kernel removal. The nuts are light brown or gray in color, with a high-quality sweet taste. The kernel fills the shell well, making this variety attractive for commercial cultivation.

The variety exhibits high cold resistance and excellent disease resistance, enabling cultivation across all regions of Ukraine, including northern areas. 'Rudkovsky' is self-fertile, but for increased yield, it is recommended to plant it alongside other Bukovinian hazelnut varieties. Grafting is performed using the improved cleft grafting method, which helps preserve the variety's qualities and high productivity.
