Grass Pea Lihum

The Ligum Chickling Vetch: A New Standard for 2024

The Ligum variety, registered in 2024 by the Institute of Grain Crops of the NAAS of Ukraine, represents a significant advancement in pulse breeding. As a complex hybrid, it is engineered to provide consistent yields and high-quality grain that meets modern agricultural and processing requirements.

Marketability and Processing Potential

The commercial value of Ligum lies in its seed uniformity. The medium-sized, wedge-shaped seeds are ideal for mechanized cleaning and sorting, which significantly reduces post-harvest processing costs. For processors, this consistency is a key factor in ensuring high-quality output, whether for food production or animal feed.

• Storage and Logistics: The biological stability of the seeds ensures excellent storability under standard warehouse conditions, maintaining quality over extended periods.
• Transportability: The seed mass and structural integrity of Ligum make it highly suitable for long-distance logistics, minimizing the risk of damage during transit.
• Processing: The wedge shape of the seeds is optimal for dehulling and milling processes, resulting in lower waste percentages during the production of flour or feed additives.

Ligum offers a balanced vegetation period, allowing farmers to plan their harvest schedules with precision. The plant's upright habit and moderate foliage density facilitate efficient harvesting, ensuring that the harvested grain remains clean and free from excessive plant debris. This variety is a robust choice for producers seeking a reliable, high-market-value crop that performs consistently across various processing stages.
