Phacelia is an annual herbaceous plant of the водолистных family, widely used as a cover crop and nectar-producing culture. It grows on various soil types, including poor and rocky ones, withstands frosts down to -9 °C, and reaches a height of 70 cm. The vegetative period lasts from 75 to 90 days, and the maturation period before flowering is 30–40 days. Seeds are sown from early spring to late summer at a depth of 1–3 cm; the sowing rate varies from 4 to 16 kg/ga depending on soil fertility.

During growth, phacelia actively releases nitrogen, improving soil structure and fertility. Its green mass decomposes quickly, enriching the soil with potassium and nitrogen, retaining moisture, and suppressing weed growth. Due to high nectar productivity (up to 1500 kg of honey per 1 ha) and pollen productivity of up to 600 kg/ga, the plant attracts a large number of pollinating insects, enhancing the biological diversity of the site.

Phacelia also serves as an effective means of protection against diseases and pests: its presence in the soil reduces the spread of pathogens, while the presence of flowers attracts predators that feed on tortrix and budworm moths. After flowering, the stems are cut and mixed with the soil to obtain humus, which further improves soil quality. Care for the plant is simple: requires watering in the first weeks after sowing, soil loosening, weed removal, and wind protection if necessary. Thanks to these properties, phacelia becomes an indispensable element of the agro-landscape for increasing crop yield and resilience.
