The German breeding company Deutsche Saatveredelung AG (DSV) introduced the 'Turfrock' ryegrass variety in 2025, specifically designed for intensive use under changing climatic conditions. The primary focus during the development of this variety was physiological resilience during periods of moisture deficit. Unlike traditional varieties, 'Turfrock' exhibits reduced transpiration through the leaf blade, allowing the crop to maintain vegetative activity even during prolonged droughts.

Stress Tolerance and Disease Resistance

Field trials confirm the variety's high resistance to a complex of fungal diseases common in ryegrass. The genetic architecture of 'Turfrock' ensures:

• Minimal susceptibility to rust and leaf spot, which is critical during high-humidity periods early in the season.
• High lodging resistance due to a robust stem structure, simplifying harvesting and minimizing yield losses.
• Rapid regrowth after mowing or grazing, making it an optimal choice for multi-cut management systems.

Officially registered in Ukraine in 2025, the variety is suitable for all soil and climatic zones of the country. 'Turfrock' performs effectively both in moderate moisture conditions and in regions with a high risk of summer drought, consistently delivering stable yields of green mass.
