Dahlia Blanka

Maximizing the potential of 'Blanka' Dahlias

For growers looking for high-impact ornamental plants, the 'Blanka' dahlia by 'Ваше хозяйство' offers a robust solution. Standing at 120–150 cm, this cultivar is a classic choice for back-border displays and commercial flower production. Its primary appeal lies in its large, impressive blooms ranging from 13 to 20 cm in diameter.

Agricultural Applications

• Cut Flower Production: This is where 'Blanka' truly shines. To achieve the maximum bloom size, growers should practice disbudding, removing lateral buds to channel energy into the main terminal flower. When harvested at the right stage, these blooms offer excellent vase life, making them a staple for fresh bouquets.
• Container Gardening: While suitable for large containers, 'Blanka' demands rigorous moisture management. Because of its height, heavy-duty pots are required to prevent tipping, and regular fertilization is essential to support the extensive foliage and heavy flowering.

Operational success with this variety requires immediate support. Given its height, staking is not optional; it is a critical task performed at the time of planting. Protecting the plants from high winds is essential, as the sheer size of the flower heads can cause snapping of the stems during storms. By maintaining a consistent watering schedule throughout the peak summer heat, you ensure that the plants reach their full 20 cm potential.
