Currant Lyubava

A Reliable Choice for the Ukrainian Orchard

The «Lyubava» blackcurrant variety is a product of professional breeding by the Lviv Research Station of Gardening (UAAS). In today's agricultural market, this variety occupies a position of a reliable mid-season performer, demonstrating high adaptability to Ukraine's climate zones. The core focus during the development of this variety was on phytosanitary resistance, making «Lyubava» an attractive option for both private gardens and smaller commercial plantations.

Agrotechnical Profile

The shrub features an upright growth habit, which significantly simplifies maintenance and harvesting. It is a mid-season variety: the period from bud break to maturity ranges from 45 to 55 days. The berries are of medium size (0.8–1.2 cm) and possess a well-balanced flavor profile typical of high-quality garden currants.

Defense and Resistance

One of the primary advantages of «Lyubava» is its genetic resistance to a complex of diseases that frequently cause crop losses:

• High immunity to powdery mildew and anthracnose — the primary threats to currants.
• Resistance to Mycosphaerella leaf spot and brown leaf spot.
• Reduced susceptibility to Septoria and spider mites, which helps minimize the need for fungicide and acaricide applications.

By choosing this variety, growers gain a predictable crop that provides stable yields with standard maintenance. «Lyubava» represents the classic, time-tested quality of domestic breeding, fully adapted to local growing conditions.
