Currant Alegro

A Reliable Standard in Ukrainian Breeding

The blackcurrant variety 'Allegro' is a product of long-term breeding efforts at the L.P. Simirenko Institute of Pomology (NAAS of Ukraine). This variety has established itself as a dependable solution for temperate climates, where yield predictability and plant health are the primary drivers of success.

Agronomic Potential and Key Features

The core value of 'Allegro' lies in its balanced combination of productivity and low maintenance requirements. Its compact bush structure significantly simplifies orchard management and allows for more efficient harvesting, making it an attractive option for both small-scale growers and intensive commercial plantations.

• Maturation Period: As a mid-season variety (45–55 days from bud break), 'Allegro' effectively manages the growing season, avoiding critical late spring frosts.
• Disease Resistance: The variety exhibits strong genetic resistance to common fungal pathogens, specifically anthracnose, septoria leaf spot, and powdery mildew. This resilience allows for a significant reduction in chemical spray schedules.
• Fruit Quality: The berries are deep black, possessing excellent marketability and are well-suited for both fresh consumption and processing.

The reputation of 'Allegro' is built upon its consistent performance across various growing conditions within Ukraine. By eliminating the need for complex, specialized cultivation techniques, the variety lowers production costs and serves as a pragmatic choice for producers who prioritize time-tested, high-quality genetic material.
