Black currant variety Gamayun is a mid-season variety with universal use, ideal for growing in the central regions of Russia. The bushes of this variety are compact, vigorous, and compact, allowing for effective use of space even on small plots. The shoots are straight, yellow-brown in color, smooth and shiny, while the leaves are matte, wrinkled with five lobes and sharp teeth, giving the plant a decorative appearance. Fruit clusters are of medium length, dense, with a straight and smooth axis.
Gamayun variety berries have an oval shape and almost black color with medium-thin skin, ensuring good preservation of fruits during transportation and storage. The average berry mass is about 1.3 grams. The taste of the fruits is sour-sweet and refreshing, making them an excellent ingredient for desserts and beverages. The berries contain about 4.1% sugar, 3.2% acid, and a high amount of vitamin C — 171 mg per 100 grams, highlighting their beneficial properties.
Gamayun variety is distinguished by high winter hardiness, withstanding temperatures up to -40°C, as well as high drought resistance and powdery mildew resistance. Yield is from 39 to 57 centners per hectare, corresponding to approximately 1.6–2.3 kg per bush. Due to resistance to diseases and pests, this variety requires minimal care, making it an attractive choice for gardeners seeking tasty and healthy berries with minimal effort.
