Currant Find

Resilient blackcurrant for sustainable production

"Znakhidka" blackcurrant, developed by the L.P. Simirenko Institute of Pomology, is a testament to the reliability of Ukrainian breeding. This variety is designed for growers who prioritize predictability and long-term health of their plantations over transient trends.

Key performance indicators

• Disease resistance: The most significant strength of Znakhidka is its innate resistance to anthracnose and septoria. By limiting the impact of these common pathogens, the variety allows for a drastic reduction in chemical inputs, making it an excellent choice for integrated and organic-leaning horticultural practices.
• Growth habit: The upright structure of the bush is a major advantage for commercial growers. It ensures that branches remain elevated, which prevents soil contamination of the berries and simplifies harvesting processes, whether manual or mechanized.
• Cold tolerance: Withstanding temperatures down to -25°C, this variety is fully adapted to the fluctuating climate of Eastern Europe, ensuring consistent yields even after harsh winters.

Why choose this variety?

Znakhidka is an optimal solution for commercial orchards or professional gardeners aiming to reduce maintenance costs. Unlike more sensitive varieties that require frequent canopy management and intensive fungal control, Znakhidka offers a robust framework that stays compact and healthy. While it requires standard irrigation practices to maximize fruit size during dry spells, its low-maintenance profile and consistent performance make it a staple in professional production. This is not a fragile ornamental; it is a workhorse variety designed to perform efficiently in real-world agricultural conditions.
