Cucumber Istochnik

Technical Profile of the 'Dzherelo' (Source) Cucumber

Developed by the Institute of Vegetable and Melon Growing of the NAAS, the 'Dzherelo' variety represents a specialized solution for open-field production. It is a bee-pollinated variety designed for high-intensity cultivation cycles where reliability and early market entry are critical.

Key Operational Metrics

• Vegetation Cycle: As an ultra-early variety, it hits the harvest stage in under 40 days. This rapid growth cycle is essential for mitigating risks associated with late-season pests and climatic instability.
• Fruit Specifications: The fruit length is consistent at 10–12 cm, optimized for both fresh market demand and the pickling industry.
• Genetic Resilience: The selection process prioritized built-in resistance to downy mildew (peronosporosis) and bacteriosis, significantly lowering the chemical intervention threshold during the growing season.

The vegetative plant architecture determines a strong balance between foliage production and fruit set. For professional agronomists, this variety requires careful nutrient management to sustain the plant during its peak harvest phase. Because it is bee-pollinated, the system relies on insect interaction to ensure proper fruit development, which prevents physiological deformities and ensures uniform yield. This combination of traits makes it a robust choice for growers prioritizing sustainable open-field agricultural practices.
