Cucumber STABSCAPTAIN

High-Yielding Excellence: The «Shtabs-Kapitan» Cucumber

The «Shtabs-Kapitan» variety, developed by the Sedek agricultural company (originators S. V. Dubinin, I. N. Dubinina, and A. N. Lukyanenko), has established itself as a reliable choice in the segment of bee-pollinated salad cucumbers. It represents a classic model tailored for high yields of marketable produce in both open-field and greenhouse environments.

With a generative growth pattern, the plant efficiently channels its energy into fruit production. Under optimal conditions, the first fruits are ready for harvest within just 45–50 days after emergence, classifying it as a mid-early variety.

Fruit Characteristics and Cultivation

The standout feature of «Shtabs-Kapitan» is its impressive size. The fruits reach 20–25 cm in length and display a distinct light green color. Their heavily warted (bumpy) surface makes them easily recognizable in the fresh produce market. Despite their significant size, these cucumbers maintain excellent flavor, making them an ideal choice for salads and culinary use.

• Pollination Type: Bee-pollinated (requires insect presence or manual pollination in closed ground conditions).
• Disease Resistance: Sedek’s selective breeding has endowed this hybrid with high resistance to powdery mildew, downy mildew, and olive spot disease. This significantly reduces the reliance on chemical fungicides during the growing season.

Choosing this variety is a strategic move for growers who prioritize a balance between quick harvesting and aesthetic quality. Due to its pronounced resilience, the variety demonstrates stability even in volatile climatic conditions where fungal outbreaks are common. Among professional vegetable growers, «Shtabs-Kapitan» is valued for its predictability and ease of maintenance.
