Cucumber grass 'Streamlet' is an annual aromatic plant with a distinct fresh cucumber scent and rich flavor, making it an ideal seasoning for vegetable dishes, as well as suitable for canning and pickling. The medium-sized leaves are dark green with a light waxy coating, elongated in shape, and slightly wrinkled. The plant's flowers are blue, adding to its ornamental value during cultivation.
The crop is undemanding: it grows best on loose, moderately fertilized soils with some shade. Sowing is done directly into the soil at a depth of 1.5–2 cm; seedlings appear 10–12 days after sowing. The period from full germination to green harvest is 40–50 days, allowing for a quick yield. The plant reaches a height of up to 40 cm and has a horizontal leaf rosette with a diameter of about 20 cm.
The yield of green mass is approximately 1 kilogram per square meter, and the mass of one plant is about 100 grams. It contains a large amount of useful substances: vitamin C, provitamin A, vitamin P, resinous and fatty acids, and mineral salts. Due to these properties, 'Streamlet' grass is valued both in cooking and in folk medicine. It is used as fresh greens, dried product, or an additive to various dishes, imparting a refreshing cucumber aroma.
