Maize Skvirs'kyi 280 SV

Field Performance of the "Skvirsky 280 SV" Hybrid

When working with the "Skvirsky 280 SV" hybrid from AF Kolos, one immediately notices its notable resilience. This simple hybrid is a workhorse that compensates for many agricultural challenges. Its main advantage for any farm owner is versatility: you are not locked into a single strategy, as this corn performs equally well for grain production and silage mass.

Sowing Density and Yield Potential

The hybrid's originators, Leonid Tsentylo and Vasyl Boreiko, prioritized yield stability across varying moisture conditions. The hybrid responds perfectly to optimized plant density. In nutrient-rich soil with good moisture, we recommend a stand density of 70,000–75,000 plants/ha to unlock its maximum potential. In areas with a higher drought risk, it is safer to stick to 55,000–60,000 plants/ha to minimize competition for resources.

Operating and Harvesting Observations

Harvesting this crop is usually straightforward and hassle-free. The grain shows excellent dry-down rates, which significantly cuts down on grain-drying costs—a crucial factor for farm profitability. For silage use, the harvest window is quite flexible, allowing operators to manage equipment logistics without a sharp drop in feed quality. It is a reliable hybrid that delivers consistent results without requiring overly complex or expensive management practices.
