This corn hybrid is engineered as a "two-in-one" solution: agronomists can plan sowing for either grain or silage without compromising yield quality. Technically, the hybrid is adapted to handle high physiological stress during the vegetation period.

Defensive mechanisms and phytosanitary resistance

The genetic architecture of LIMIIL 5420 SM incorporates robust resistance to pathogens critical for this crop. Breeders have paid specific attention to combating smut diseases. Due to its high genetic resistance to common smut, the plant minimizes yield loss risks even under adverse weather conditions that typically trigger fungal infections. The hybrid also demonstrates specific resistance to loose smut and head smut, which reduces the need for additional fungicide applications.

Planting density strategy

Realizing the yield potential depends directly on the stand density. The originator (Semlima) recommends a differentiated approach depending on the intended use:

• Grain production: the optimal density is 75,000–85,000 plants per hectare, allowing for the formation of a high-quality ear with a high thousand-kernel weight.
• Silage production: the recommended density ranges from 60,000–70,000 plants per hectare, creating optimal conditions for biomass development with high dry matter content and energy value.
