A medium-early grain hybrid with high adaptability to the Polissya region.
Description
Genetic Potential and Field Performance
The new 2025 hybrid from the Institute of Grain Crops of the NAAS of Ukraine, "Holos," is a result of breeding efforts focused on adaptability to the Polissya region. This medium-early grain hybrid demonstrates high field performance and technological efficiency.
Morphological Traits and Resilience
The plant is characterized by a very tall stature, with the upper ear attachment at a medium height, ensuring an optimal balance for mechanized harvesting. A wide leaf blade with moderate edge waviness promotes efficient photosynthesis, while the upright leaf orientation allows the crop to utilize solar energy effectively.
In field conditions, "Holos" exhibits the following traits:
- Stalk Strength: Weak zigzagging of the stem combined with its morphology minimizes lodging risks, which is critical for yield preservation during late-season rainfall.
- Stress Response: Balanced flowering indicators (medium silk emergence) allow the hybrid to pass through critical development phases stably, avoiding peak heat stress typical of northern regions.
- Crop Health: The absence or very weak anthocyanin coloration of anthers and internodes indicates high physiological stability, reducing susceptibility to pathogens that thrive on stress-damaged tissues.
A short ear of medium diameter with moderate silk anthocyanin coloration is formed on a medium-length shank, which facilitates combine operation and reduces threshing losses. This hybrid is ideal for farms focused on stable grain production in the Polissya zone, where a combination of early maturity and high productivity is essential.

Dual-purpose hybrids: for silage and grain in all growing regions. These are "stay-green" type hybrids, meaning the plants remain green for a longer period. However, this does not affect the sugar, cellulose, and hemicellulose content, nor the degree of lignification of the plant... |
