A mid-early grain hybrid developed by the NAAS, specifically adapted for stable performance in the Polissia region.
Description
A New Standard from the Institute of Grain Crops
In 2025, the State Register of Plant Varieties of Ukraine officially included the DH Akpadon maize hybrid. Developed by the State Institution "Institute of Grain Crops of the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences of Ukraine," this F1 hybrid represents the latest advancements in domestic breeding. It is specifically tailored for the Polissia agro-climatic zone, focusing on high-yield grain production.
Morphological Profile and Adaptation
DH Akpadon is classified as a mid-early maturing hybrid. The plant is characterized by its significant height, yet it maintains a low ear placement ratio, which enhances lodging resistance and facilitates efficient harvesting. The plant's morphology is distinct, featuring intensely green leaves with strong waviness along the margins and a moderately drooping leaf blade position.
Technical Specifications
According to UPOV-based assessments, the hybrid displays a well-defined set of traits:
- Vegetative Structure: The stem shows weak zigzagging, with a notable absence of anthocyanin coloration in the internodes and aerial roots.
- Inflorescence: The tassel has a medium flowering time and a compact structure, with a small number of primary lateral branches.
- Ear Characteristics: The ear is relatively short with a short peduncle. The silk exhibits moderate anthocyanin coloration and emerges during the mid-to-late period.
The DH Akpadon hybrid is a testament to the rigorous selection process conducted by the NAAS of Ukraine. By combining scientific precision with regional adaptation, this hybrid offers farmers in the Polissia region a reliable and productive solution for their grain cultivation needs.

Dual-purpose hybrids: for silage and grain in all growing regions. These are "stay-green" type hybrids, meaning the plants remain green for a longer period. However, this does not affect the sugar, cellulose, and hemicellulose content, nor the degree of lignification of the plant... |
