DONSKAYA VYSOKOROSLAYA is a tall maize variety of the dent group, characterized by plant height of 250 to 350 cm and wide leaves. The ears of this variety are conical, 25-30 cm long, with high attachment on the stem (100-120 cm). Most plants produce two ears, and seed color varies from yellow to yellow-orange with different intensity. The 1000-seed mass is 280-300 g, indicating large grain size. The maturity period is medium-late — 110-120 days, corresponding to FAO group 450.
The variety is distinguished by high productivity: average grain yield reaches 450-550 c/ha, and under favorable conditions may exceed 118 c/ha. Additionally, the variety is versatile and used both for grain production and silage. An important feature is that at full grain maturity, the leaf-stem biomass remains green, allowing for high-quality silage preparation. Average yield of normalized dry matter in silage direction is about 151.4 c/ha.
DONSKAYA VYSOKOROSLAYA is adapted for cultivation in various regions, including Voronezh, Kursk, Lipetsk, Oryol, Tambov regions, as well as republics of the North Caucasus and southern regions of Russia. The variety was registered in 1977 and possesses resistance to local climatic conditions, making it in demand for grain and silage use.
