Description Cosmo 230
Cosmo 230 is a three-line hybrid sweet corn, belonging to the mid-early maturity group with a vegetative period of about 109 days. It is included in the State Register for the Central Chernozem region and is intended for cultivation for grain and silage across the entire country, including the Steppe, Forest-Steppe, and Polesie. According to FAO classification, its early maturity corresponds to number 240. The hybrid is characterized by high yield: the average grain yield in the region is 48.6 c/ha, which is 12.2% higher than the standard level, and the maximum yield reached 97.4 c/ha. Grain moisture at harvest averages 24.7%, which is 5.4% lower than the standard.

The plant is tall with curved leaves of medium width and strong anthocyanic coloring of roots and stems. The ear is weakly conical, long with a short stalk and average number of rows of kernels. The kernel is intermediate type with yellow-orange coloration of the upper part. The tassel flowers early, has average density of panicles, and weak anthocyanic coloration of silk and panicle scales. The main tassel axis length exceeds the upper lateral branch length, lateral branches are straight and of medium length. The hybrid shows resistance to common smut and ear rot, as well as moderate infection levels by bacterial blight, Fusarium ear rot, and damage by corn borer.

Cosmo 230 has high resistance to root and stalk lodging, as well as significant resistance to stalk and ear diseases. In COBORU registered trials, the hybrid showed high total dry matter yield, with more than 50% of dry matter being from ears. The recommended planting density is 95,000 seeds per hectare for silage cultivation and 80-85,000 seeds for grain cultivation. The hybrid is well adapted to various soil types, including rye-wheat-beet soils, and suitable for various agro-climatic zones.
