Bigstar

The Bigstar corn hybrid is a high-yielding mid-season French selection hybrid, suitable for cultivation as grain or silage. It features an excellent balance between large ears and high yield, making it a profitable choice for agricultural producers. Plant height reaches 250-285 cm, with ears positioned at approximately 105 cm, providing reliable protection from birds, rodents, and adverse weather conditions. The hybrid has 14-16 rows of kernels, with 27 kernels per row, contributing to high density and quality of harvest. The 1000-kernel weight varies from 210 to 318.4 g, and the potential grain yield is 120-135 ц/ha. Bigstar features a dent-type kernel and high moisture loss at maturity, facilitating harvesting and storage. The hybrid responds well to improved growing conditions and foliar fertilization, enabling maximum potential realization. It exhibits high drought and cold resistance (9 points each), and tolerance to major corn diseases including helminthosporiosis, fusarium, and rust, ensuring stable yields even under adverse conditions. Initial growth energy is rated at 9 points, and lodging resistance is rated at 7 points. For optimal cultivation, seed density should be adjusted according to region: in Polissia — 85-100 thousand plants per hectare, in forest-steppe — 75-90 thousand, in steppe — 60-70 thousand plants. The required sum of effective temperatures is 1510 °C for silage and 1640 °C for grain under appropriate moisture conditions. Registered in Ukraine’s state register since 2008, the Bigstar hybrid is a reliable and highly efficient solution for feed and grain production, ensuring high output with minimal costs.
