Technological potential of the "Batkiv" hybrid

Rasava's breeding program in the mid-ripening maize segment focuses on maximizing productivity potential while maintaining stable grain moisture release rates. "Batkiv" (FAO 320) is a single-cross hybrid, which practically ensures high crop uniformity and predictable plant behavior under intensive cultivation practices. Utilizing a single-cross hybrid minimizes yield heterogeneity, which is critical for producing uniform commercial grain.

Morphological features and adaptability

The flint-dent grain type serves as a "sweet spot" for agricultural conditions in Ukraine. This endosperm structure provides an optimal balance between rapid moisture loss during maturation and high grain test weight during storage. The use of "Batkiv" for grain production is justified by its physiological traits:

• Biological resistance to common smut (Ustilago maydis) reduces the risk of crop loss under stressful vegetative conditions.
• The mid-ripening segment (FAO 320) allows for optimized harvesting schedules, balancing dry matter accumulation with costs associated with post-harvest grain drying.
