Red Cap

Beautiful annual zinnia reaches a height of 20 to 35 cm and is distinguished by bright red flower heads in the form of baskets 4–6 cm in diameter. The plant grows quickly, forming dense double bushes, which look particularly effective in groups.

Zinnia prefers sunny locations and moderately drought-tolerant soil, but it is sensitive to frost, so it is better to grow it from seedlings. Seeds are usually soaked in advance, and sowing is done in April at a depth of 1 cm. After the end of spring frosts, seedlings are transplanted with an interval of 20–25 cm. If necessary, growing seedlings can be deepened, as zinnias quickly develop adventitious roots.

Flowering begins two to three months after sowing and continues from mid-June to the first frosts, sometimes even until September. Each flower remains on the stem for up to 35 days, which makes the plant popular for cutting: flower heads retain their brightness in water for a long time, and when preparing bouquets they can be scalded with hot water or cut diagonally. Zinnia is widely used in flower beds, borders, and large masses, as well as as a decorative element on balconies and in garden compositions.
