Chrysanthemum Elena

Practical use of the ‘Elena’ chrysanthemum in landscaping and floral industry

The ‘Elena’ variety, developed by breeder Nina Pavlovna Kozmenko, is a versatile plant for both home gardening and commercial flower production. With its moderate height (30–60 cm) and reliable performance, it is a staple for growers looking for consistency throughout the autumn season.

Application scenarios for professional growers

• Floral production and cut flowers: With a bloom diameter of 5–10 cm and a vase life of 21–30 days, ‘Elena’ is a highly marketable variety for autumn bouquets. Its ability to bloom in succession from September to November allows for a continuous supply chain.
• Garden landscaping: The plant is perfect for mid-tier garden beds. Its vibrant range of purple, white, and orange flowers provides excellent opportunities for seasonal color blocking in public and private spaces.
• Container gardening: The compact, mid-sized structure makes it suitable for pot cultivation, allowing for flexible placement on patios or in retail settings.

Technical considerations for cultivation

Successful management of ‘Elena’ requires strategic planning based on its blooming window (September–November). To maximize the quality of the 5–10 cm flowers, maintaining adequate spacing is essential to ensure proper airflow. This prevents moisture-related issues during the later stages of autumn, ensuring that each bloom maintains its intended color depth and structural integrity. By staggering planting dates, growers can maximize the yield of fresh cut flowers for the entire autumn market period.
